However, this type of establishment was still banned in Japan during the 2010s. It was when the city of Tokyo won the right to host the 2020 Olympic Games that the country decided to legalize three casino hotels in the country.
All prefectures interested in obtaining such a complex had to issue a call for tenders to select a project, which they then presented to the national government. It is the government that makes the final selection. From all the successful applications, it must choose three to become Japan’s first casino hotels.
At the time of writing, it is not yet known where these establishments will be able to open their doors. However, the prefectures of Osaka, Tokyo, Yokohama, Wakayama, and Nagasaki, among others, have already expressed interest in the project.
