In land-based casinos around the world, you can find plenty of different card games. While blackjack and baccarat are certainly the most popular, you can also play war games, dragon tiger, pontoon, or even red dog, for example. Of course, different poker variations are often offered. Some involve facing other players. Some require you to form a paying hand, like in video poker. There are also versions where you have to beat the dealer, such as pai gow poker.
This popular game has once again made a lucky winner in Las Vegas. A tourist from Utah just won nearly $250,000 at a table dedicated to this poker variant at The Orleans Hotel & Casino .
A poker variant that is increasingly popular in the United States
Inspired by the classic Chinese tile game pai gow, pai gow poker is played with cards. Created by Sam Torosian in 1985, owner of the Bell Card Club in the United States, it consists of forming a two-card hand and a five-card hand. To win money, both must be stronger than the dealer’s, based on traditional poker combinations (pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, and royal flush).
Very easy to learn, pai gow poker is becoming increasingly popular with American players. This is probably why our future winner wanted to play it.
